Frequently asked questions

Who will be my veterinarian?
All visits are provided by Dr. Vivian, owner of Peaceful Paws. You’ll receive one‑on‑one, compassionate care from start to finish.

What areas do you serve?
We serve Boston and surrounding communities (generally within ~30 miles). Check the "Service Area" page for additional information. If you’re unsure, please reach out—many families just outside our standard radius can be accommodated. Travel fees may apply in some areas.

What does it cost?
Pricing is transparent and discussed upfront. Fees reflect travel to your home, the length of the visit, gentle sedation, and our peaceful passing protocol. Additional fees may apply for extended travel, special handling needs, or pets over 100 lb. Please see our Pricing & Aftercare section or contact us for a personalized estimate.

What payment methods do you accept?
We accept major credit/debit cards. To ensure a smooth and stress free visit, payment is due prior to the time of service, and a detailed receipt can be provided for your records or pet insurance.

How do I schedule?
Call/text (978) 444‑2777 , email info@peacefulpawsbostonvet.com, or fill out the contact us form. Same‑day or next‑day visits may be possible based on availability; advance scheduling is encouraged when you can.

How will I know it’s time?
If you’re uncertain, we offer Quality of Life Consultations to help you evaluate comfort, mobility, appetite, joy, and bad days versus good days. We’ll guide you with empathy and honest, veterinary insight.

What happens during a virtual consultation?
Your consultation is a private, supportive conversation with Dr. Vivian via video call. We’ll discuss your pet’s daily habits, health changes, comfort level, and happiness. Together, we’ll look at their quality of life and explore your options — from palliative care to preparing for a peaceful goodbye.

What to expect during an in‑home pet euthanasia?
Most visits are 45–60 minutes. Some families want more time for goodbyes, keepsakes, or rituals—we’ll follow your pace as much as our schedule allows.
-
Arrival & Conversation: We will assess quality of life and determine if euthanasia is warranted, review your wishes, and answer any questions you may have.
-
Sedation: A gentle sedative helps your pet relax and fall into a comfortable sleep.
-
Peaceful Passing: A final medication will be given to allow your pet to pass. This usually takes just minutes.
-
Keepsakes: Ink paw print and a lock of fur are included, if desired.
-
Aftercare: We coordinate cremation or respectfully leave your pet in your care, based on your choice
Where in the home should we be?
Anywhere your pet feels safest and most comfortable—favorite bed, couch, sunny spot, or the backyard (weather‑permitting and private). Soft lighting, blankets, music, and treats are welcome. The area does need to be easy to assess and have enough room to allow Dr. Vivian to walk around your pet without difficulty.
What if my pet is anxious or is aggressive with strangers?
Please tell us in advance. We have low‑stress Fear-free approaches and can tailor sedation. Please note, there may be an additional fee of $225 for these special cases.

Can other pets be present?
Many families find it meaningful for household pets to say goodbye, which can help them understand the loss. All pets are welcome to be present. In order to keep other pets and everyone safe during the appointment. We ask pets who are potentially aggressive to be secured in a different area and say goodbye afterwards.

How should we prepare for aftercare transport?
A family member’s assistance will be required for pets over 25lbs. Clear a pathway to the exit and Dr. Vivian will bring a soft stretcher.
For pets over 100 lb, we require two or three family member's assistance or we can coordinate direct crematory pickup.

What is your cancellation policy?
We understand plans can change. Please give 24 hours’ notice whenever possible so we can help another family in need. There may be a fee for late cancellations or if significant travel have already been completed.
